Abstract

This study was performed for assessing carcinogenecity of porcine somatotrophin(PST) using mid-term carcinogenecity bioassay.
Fischer 344 rats aged sip weeks divided into four groups and given an intraperitoneal injection of diethylnitrosamine at 200§·/§¸ body weight. Two weeks after beginning of the experiment, group 1 was negative control treated with saline. Group 2 was begun to feed on water containing 0.05% phenobarbital sodium as a promotor for six weeks, arid PST was given intraperitoneally to rats of group 3(0.015§·/150g B.W) and group 4(0.3§·/150g B.W). Three weeks after beginning of the experiment, partial hepatectomy was performed in all rats. Preneoplastic foci were identified histopathologically by glutathione S-transferase placental form activity and quantitatively analyzed by immage analyzed. PST was not different as compared with negative control group. Therefore, it was concluded that PST didn¢¥t have carcinogenic effect.
